Korean Couples, I have to admit are quite the Cute Bundle! Just like us Westerners, they must obviously like the other person to then date them. But, that’s not what I wish to talk about on this topic. In fact, I want to expand on HOW Korean couples seemingly get together, in a way that …I would have to say is quite unique ^^
First off, if you had/have a partner right now. You’ll understand what I mean when I say, sometimes….you just can’t get enough of the other person! You just want to wake up and see them first off. Whether face to face, or a simple text saying ‘Morninggg!’ No matter how ‘Grown Up’ a person may wish to be. There’s no avoiding the typical ‘cheesiness’ that comes with being a couple~~ and you have to just love it!
This is something that is similar with all couples. Whether English, American, Korean or Martian! It’s just a Universal Trait. (even the stern guys in K-dramas soften up eventually right …) xD
The fact is, being part of a couple is just a nice spin on life. So keep up the niceties! (I can’t help my typical terms….heck, I’m British!) -_-
Now to get onto the main topic, its how Korean couples come to be that I want to talk about. From K-dramas (as you can tell, I love them), to personal experiences ~~ It seems that Korean’s put a whole lot more effort than we do. Now I won’t stereotype and say all, but most girls/guys that wish to confess do it in such a sweet manner, that it makes us swoon. (Well, at least when through the screen). They put such an effort into writing a ‘Confession Letter ? …hmm, maybe Love Letter is more suited’. The fact how they put their heart into it, its just too unbearable for the Western eye. Don’t get me wrong! It’s such a sweet, cute, aspirating thing to do. But I am arguing on the two perspectives here. British and Korean right? (It’s my blog…I’ll do what I will) <3
Now if a guy on your campus approached you, or girl for any guys that are reading this. It would be hella awkward if they handed you a letter, and walked away. That’s if they don’t stand and wait for your reaction. In British terms, what is the poor person meant to do. Open it right before them and having to reject this unknown person. Cause that’s how it usually works, the receiver tends to have no idea who this being is. Yet in Korea, this is just how things work. If you like a person, you don’t just go and ask them out! Are you crazy?! …Instead you make them feel awkward and confess through a letter …-_-
Personally, I admit. I have been through such an ordeal before. The reason I say ordeal? Simply because at the time, I was free of the Hallyu wave and any such Asian influence. I was as British as I could be, and loved all things English (hey, I knew nothing else at the time …don’t give me that look) T.T
So when I was approached by a transfer student whom I didn’t know. I was simply awestruck o_o ! This was a boy who had joined my year group, and had not a word to say to me. Well, that is until a few months passed and he handed me his confession. I couldn’t do anything but nod awkwardly and walk away. Leaving the poor boy standing alone in the corridor. But I did what all else would and simply snuck the letter into my bag. Forgetting about it till I emptied it out the following weekend.
Damn did I miss getting to know such a sweet person though. I hadn’t realized until I read the letter, that this boy would be leaving the country again and wanted to know if I liked him too. By the time I read it, he’d already gone T.T …ahh I have to admit, life sucks eggs sometimes ~~
So it goes to show, our cultures have such a big difference. But that doesn’t go to show that we have one up on the other. In fact, I have to say I love them both. Koreans, and asia in general have just a sweeter, more emotional way of showing they like someone. Korean Confessions win hands down on this one!!
Let me know your stories and views on the comments below, I’d love to hear from you ! ^^
(ahh, and don’t worry…Onew up there ^ is still as single as can be. Looks cute though huh!)
